Bride moves to groom's home, (or groom's parent's home)
In primitive times girls had been captured from neighboring clans to continue the family line, but eventually this practice gave way to a less violent one of arranged marriages: fathers obtained wives for their sons in exchange for a "bride price" which compensated a girl's family for the loss of a skilled and fertile member. After she was escorted by her father to her new home, the bride was now only ritually abducted by the husband, who carried her over the threshold of his home and fed her a piece of sacred cake, which inducted her into her new religion and established her communion with her husband's family gods.
